about

A beautiful relaxing place to relax, swim or picnic is the Rainbow Creek, lake and parklands at the Cowwarr Weir.

According to Southern Rural Water's website. The Rainbow Creek area formed as a breakaway from the Thompson river in a big flood in 1952.

In 1959 the Cowwarr Weir dam and the channel were built. The purpose of this was to allow water to be diverted, usually during Spring in order to irrigate the Nambrok-Denison Area. Having the effect of
"enabling water to be conserved in Lake Glenmaggie for as long as possible, thus maximizing the water available to the irrigation district." (Southern
Rural Water: www.srw.com.au/recreation/cowwarr-weir/)

During normal irrigation conditions, the Cowwarr Weir Dam is kept at near full capacity. Making it a popular swimming hole and picnic area for locals; whilst simultaneously helping grow farmer's crops and keep livestock fed and hydrated.
