about

The train recording was taken on the Walhalla steam train ride to Thompson Station. I had forgotten my headphones, so the gain structure for the recording was an educated guess.

It is certainly not a peaceful-sounding ride, although the experience of being on the train was quite peaceful.

The recorder was located next to a vacant seat.
As such much of what you can hear are the mechanical vibrations felt through the rattling windows and clunking metal.

The sharp transient sounds are windows being opened and shut by other passengers.

The other two recordings were taken at the river near Thomson station and at Moondarra Reservoir Lookout.

All these recordings have purposefully been left raw as I found the moments of interaction between people, machines, and environments and the correlating dynamics to be a rather fascinating study into how humans interact with environments sonically.

These recordings are not permitted to be used for commercial use without the explicit permission of the artist.
